Hazel Frances Dunn McNeely

Hazel Frances Dunn McNeely

Surrounded by her loving family, our mother and grandmother "Nana" went Home to be with the Lord on January 16, 2008. She was under the care of Hospice Savannah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis McNeely, her parents, Robert David Dunn and Lottie Mae Humphrey Dunn, and her brother, Marshall Thomas "Tom" Dunn.

She was born April 15, 1921. in Hardwick near Milledgeville, GA, where she had a happy and loving childhood, and graduated in 1938 from Peabody High School, Milledgeville. She married in 1941, moved to Savannah in 1943, and lived in her beloved home on DAV Island, Tybee, for over 40 years. Her last residence was at River's Edge Retirement Community, where she made many friends.

She was a long-time member of Chapel By-The-Sea Baptist Church, Tybee Island, and a life-long, beautiful Christian. Her faith, friendship and unconditional love have been, and always will be, an inspiration to her family and friends.

She loved crocheting, quilting, singing in the Church choir, playing hand bells at River's Edge and, most of all, she loved her family and friends with all her heart. She rejoiced in the beauty of nature, loved making new friends and saw the good in everyone.

She is survived by her son, David McNeely, daughter-in-law, Gerrie Tomlinson McNeely, both of Savannah, her daughter, Linda McNeely Guadagno, son-in-law, Tony Guadagno, both of Land ‘O Lakes, FL, grandchildren: Chris Wilkes, Tampa, Greg Wilkes, Brunswick, Vicki Wilkes Caraway, Plant City, FL, Michael Wilkes, Atlanta, Mollie A. Pleicones, Orlando, Amy McNeely Lane, Savannah, nine great-grandchildren, brothers Robert Terrell Dunn, Macon, and Cecil Dunn, Jackson, GA, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mom, we will all miss you greatly. But, we are happy knowing that you are now in your Eternal Home. You will always be in our hearts.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2008 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel with Dr. David C. Laughner officiating.

To the family of Hazel McNeely and especially Linda and David my husband and I would like to express our deepest sympathies for your loss. My brother Charles and I thought a lot of her. She remained a steadfast friend to our parents, Oscar and Grace Peacock. We were always happy to see her attend the functions we held for them over the years. I am so sorry I could not attend due to unexpected out of town guests son and his wife. Please know that we were with you in our hearts and surely know what you are going through. Take care and let us hear from you.

Miss Hazel was such a good example to us all. We sure will miss her but are so thankful that she is no longer suffering any physical pain and is now in the presence of the Lord. Miss Hazel was such a dear friend to our mother Ruth Fields and to us too. You are all in our thoughts and prayers as you mourn the loss of such a beautiful lady. We are so sorry that we aren't able to be there for her services because we are serving the Lord overseas. With deepest sympathy, Jerry, Jennifer, Josiah & Julia Fields
